The Difference Between a Stun Gun and a Taser

Although both are used effectively as defense weapons, a taser is really different that a stun gun. Let's explore both:

Stun Guns use high voltage (in varying ranges) and low amps to briefly "stun" or "daze" your threat. Eventhough it's a temporary effect, the "punch" is powerful! Once the stun gun touches your attacker's body, the stun gun in a sense "neutralizes" the body's voluntary muscle movements and stops your attacker's body from functioning normally. The perpetrator will typically lose his balance and be unable to get back up for several minutes - allowing time for you to escape. With a stun gun, your attacker must be within touching distance.

Tasers combine the same technology as a stun gun, but with a different "power punch" - Electro-Muscular Disruption (EMD) technology. You've probably seen this used in the TV show "Cops". When fired, the taser sends 2 "capture tips" each on a wire, up to 15-feet to land on your attacker. Once landed, these tips all the muscle disruption effect to reach your attacker and cause his central nervous system to be interrupted. This will render him powerless for several minutes - again allowing time for you to escape and reach safety. With a taser, the perpetrator must be within 15-feet of your body.

Again, both the stun gun and the taser are effective defense products - helping to protect you against harm. When considering which one is right for you, first check your state law; then think about how, when, where you might need personal security and how close you want your attacker to get!
