How Safe Is Your Home Really?

Do you lock your doors at night? Of course, we all do. But do you take extra steps to ensure your safety and the safety of your loved ones while in the comfort of your home?

According to F.B.I. statistics, in 2005 there were more than 1.3 million violent crimes reported. Most people believe that these crimes only happen to "other people" or to those who live in inner-cities. NOT TRUE!! Suburbs and rural areas are no longer safe havens. Neighborhoods that once never needed to lock their doors are now finding the need to add even more security. Dead bolts and outdoor security lighting have become the standard.

Ensuring your safety and the safety of your loved ones is perhaps the most important task you have. Take it seriously and with a great deal of thought, but don't take too long to initiate any needed steps.

When evaluating your home security, remember these areas:
~ lock the dooor as soon as you enter your home. Double check to ensure it's locked
~ doors should have viewers or "peep holes", dead-bolt locks, chains and alarms or alerts
~ windows should have functioning locks and alarms or alerts
~ single ladies living alone may want to consider purchasing a telephone voice changer
~ keep emergency telephone numbers listed at every phone
~ hide money or valuables in a diversion safe (not in your jewelry box!)
~ if you suspect "foul play" or your instincts cause you concern while you are away, a hidden
camera may give you answers
~ when away, notify your neighbors and ask them to collect your mail and newspapers while
you are gone

Hopefully these thoughts will help you create a more safe home for you and those you love.

"Are You Safe?"

Have you ever felt like you were being watched or followed as you walked from one place to another? Well, that's exactly how my son felt right before he was assaulted.

He heard someone walking behind him and he did exactly as we always told him - he turned around to face his follower. The follower stopped. My son turned back around to continue walking, then suddenly was hit on the back of his head which caused him to fall foward on concrete. Five to six others got out of a vehicle and joined in hitting and kicking my son. Luckily, he sustained to serious injuries.

In this case, if he would have attempted to use Pepper Spray Stream to deter his follower or attackers - the canister may have gotten in the wrong hands and may have been used against him.

That's why we believe so strongly that you must have options in your Personal Protection arsonal. These options depend on the different situations you may find yourself in, and don't necessarily need to cost an arm and a leg.

The use of a Personal Alarm would have drawn attention to my son's situation and could have prevented or shortened his attack, while a Pepper Spray Fogger may have also been effective. Because my son was attacked at dusk - he had difficulty identifying the perpetrators. A Tear Gas with UV Dye would have made this job alot easier for both him and the police officers.

They say "hindsight is 20/20" and this is so true! Learn from our mistakes - be proactive and think ahead - plan for what "could happen" and ways to prevent or escape from it.

You can no longer afford to be naive and live innocently in a perfect world.
